Reset Ubuntu Password

1.    On some system, maybe you can’t find “recovery mode” on Grub Screen menu. So? You need to do a “little hack” to the Grub Loader. Looks cool right? In fact its very easy.

2.    On Grub Screen menu, select default loader (first choice) and press “E” key that means you’ll edit manually that loader. Wow! On the next screen, find row that contains this word:

            ro quiet splash

3.    Then replace that with this:

            rw init=/bin/bash

4.    After that, press “CTRL”+”X” (or maybe “B” key on your system, depend to your kernel) to boot the system with “hacked” loader.

5.    Done! You’re logged in as root on your system now, and you can do anything you want. Including resetting your password!

6.    Use this command to reset your password:

        passwd [username]

Note:- Fill username with username that you want to reset its password. You’ll prompt new password twice.

7.    In this step, you’re almost done! Now, make sure the change you’ve made will be written to disk by:

        Sync

8.    Reboot your system:

        reboot -f

9.    You’re done! Your password has been reset, and you can login to your system now.

Is mvDDoS planining a new attack on dhiraagu?

I read from mvDDoS tweets that they are teaming up with Lulsec & Antisec to ddos dhiraagu on eid.

Is it true? Guess we have to watch and see how it turns out. Who is LulSec, AntiSec and Anonymous is?

Lulz Security, commonly abbreviated as LulzSec, is a computer hacker group that claims responsibility for several high profile attacks, including the compromise of user accounts from Sony Pictures in 2011. The group also claimed responsibility for taking the CIA website offline. The group was also behind attacks on Sony, attacks on PBS, the US Senate, the CIA, and a slew of gaming sites popular with 4Chan users including EVE Online,Minecraft and League of Legends. LulzSec was thought to have been the source of hacks against Scotland Yards and the UK Census. It has gained attention due to its high profile targets and the sarcastic messages it has posted in the aftermath of its attacks.

LulzSec Says Goodbye & Operation AntiSec will continue. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired and the group announced it had teamed up with Anonymous for "Operation Anti-Security".

Joining Ubuntu (10.04 / 10.10 / 11.04) to Active Directory Domain using Terminal

My first post after long break is about Linux (Ubuntu OS). Why Linux!! Because now in Maldives each and every office (Government) will be going to use Open-source software (OSS) / Open-source Operating system (OSOS) at some percentage as copy right law has been passed by the Majilis. As Open-source Operating system NCIT Recommends Ubuntu.  As people are not familiar with Ubuntu I just want to share my knowledge with it.

Please don’t go crazy thinking that all offices will be going fully Open-source, Operating System, Around 25% of each office is getting Open-source Operating System. Others will get OS from Microsoft.  How about Other software’s like CorelDraw, Adobe Reader Pro, Nero etc… start learning new OSS instead of it, because you won't get it any more.

1.  Installing likewise-open

Download from Ubuntu Software Centre by searching for "active directory membership" or install by terminal:-

sudo apt-get install likewise-open likewise-open-gui

2.  Joining domain

System > Administration > active directory membership is the GUI which is easier, otherwise, in terminal:

sudo domainjoin-cli join mydomain.local Administrator

Replace mydomain.local and Administrator with your domain name and the user. Enter password when prompted and you will see a success message and asking you to reboot, but before you reboot follow step 3.

3.  Setting Default login As domain

If you are not using gui and want to login without typing domain + username i.e mydomain/username:

sudo lwconfig assumeDefaultDomain true

“(config)” Mean you are Configuration Terminal

Password need when enter into Privilege Mode next time
Router(config)#enable password p@ssw0rd
Router(config)#enable secret s3cr3t

DoS (denial-of-service attack) or DDoS distributed denial-of-service attack

As most of us know what DDos is! Last week dhiraagu got hit hard by DDos attack. It took 9 days to restore their network back to normal working condition. As told by dhiraagu, they attacked Dhiraage Web Servers & Main Router.

So what DDos?
The use of a DDos is to overwhelm or flood servers, network links, and network devices (routers, firewalls, etc.) by sending segments/packets and making its resource/bandwidth busy or unavailable for Intended Users.
A DDoS attack directs hundreds or even thousands of compromised "zombie" hosts against a single target. These zombie hosts are unwittingly recruited from the millions of unprotected computers accessing the Internet through high-bandwidth, "always-on" connections. By planting "sleeper" codes on these machines, hackers can quickly build a legion of zombies, all waiting for the command to launch a DDoS attack. With enough zombie hosts participating, the volume of an attack can be astounding. The diagram show how DDos work.

Can we Protect Network from DDos!

Yes / No. DDoS is emerging as the weapon of choice for hackers, political "hacktivists," cyber-extortionists, and international cyber-terrorists. Easily launched against limited defenses, DDoS attacks not only target individual Websites or other servers at the edge of the network- they subdue the network itself. Attacks have begun to explicitly target the network infrastructure, such as aggregation or core routers and switches, or Domain Name System (DNS) servers. Because DDoS attacks are among the most difficult to defend against, responding to them appropriately and effectively poses a tremendous challenge for all Internet-dependent organizations. Network devices and traditional perimeter security technologies such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDSs).

Secret of Dhiraagu E-directory

Okay First I am very angry at Dhiraagu the way they treated me when I had trouble at my home Internet, which is from Dhiraagu Broadband ADSL. For 3 weeks without internet they fail to fix it. But there goal is to fix a problem with in 48 hours when it’s reported.

As you all know when we try to find some one mobile number by entering Name of the person or Address only land lines number show up, no mobile numbers……!!! Dhiraagu E-directory is very up to day with the latest Numbers of Landlines and Mobile numbers. Ok there is a very simple way to get a list of landlines / Mobile number list from Dhiraagu without call 110 and the best thing is it’s FREE.

Just visit dhiraagu.com.mv and scroll down there will be a small box call E-directory. Just enter a 1st Letter of the Mobile number it will be 7 for all. Then just put 6 spaces (press Space Key 6 times) and submit it. What we are doing is tell Dhiraagu server to give us all the number starting with 7. Why adding 6 spaces it’s because there are 7 numbers mobile number. 7 is the starting 1st letter, is 6 spaces will complete the 7 letter combination of the mobile numbers. For land line just add 3 and 6 spaces (press Space Key 6 times) will do for landlines.

Eg: - “7 “without the Comma

Some may think they use JavaScript to verify what we enter. Just Disable JavaScript it will work. Nop!!! It wont work because Dhiraagu verify JavaScript + from there server side all so. You can bypass JavaScript Verify but not Server Side Verification.

Note: - It will take a SOME time to load the complete list.

The Flying car

Posted in ,
A company called Terrafugia is currently developing a plane that transitions into a car. For a mere $148,000 you too can own a Transition. When completed in late 2009, it will have an average cruising speed of 115 mph, gets over 25 mpg in the air. It’s classified as a Light Sport Utility vehicle and weighs only 1320 lbs. It will be powered by a 100 hp, 4-stroke Rotax 912 ULS. This engine is FAA certified to run on both 91+ octane autogas as well as 100LL. The same engine is used to power the rear push-prop and front wheels, using a clutch-based transmission for power selection. The Rotax engine is certified to allow a 5% ethanol mixture.

Cargo and dimensions
The vehicle will have 550 lbs of usable cargo weight in a 20 cubic foot space, which can be divided up among people, bags or fuel. It has a 20 gallon fuel tank which consumes about 120 lbs of fuel. Its maximum range is 460 miles (400 nm) when operating at 75% power, which is required to sustain 115mph cruising speed. When in folded position, the vehicle measures just 6.75 feet high, by 7.5 feet wide, by 18.75 feet long. No data on the wingspan was given, however it could not exceed approximately 35 feet due to the stated dimensions and mechanical operation of the wing through a single central hinge. The internal cabin space is 50 inches wide.

Transition’s wing loading is approximately 8.8 lbs per square foot, which is comparable to light sport or general purpose aviation aircraft. They currently have a working prototype wing design, however it is machine mounted and is not part of the actual aircraft. All of the pictures and images seen are either from a 1/5th scale prototype that was built and flown, or from computer generated animation.

The vehicle goes from 1-2-3, or from 3-2-1 via the push of a button. It must be stopped, engine off, to make the transition. The vertical stabilizers double as rear taillights and indicators. A pilot’s license is required to operate the vehicle, which will have a price tag of approximately $148,000. It will be available in late 2009, with a full-size prototype completed in late 2008. A 1/5th prototype has already been created and flown.

In order to operate the vehicle, the pilot (not the driver) will have to be FAA certified and hold a pilot’s license. Currently only a visual flight rating (VFR) ability is planned, as the on-board instruments will not be sufficient for a full Instrument Rating.

Maldives’ 2nd president, Ibrahim Nasir, has passed away at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. He died while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore around 7:15pm Male’ time.

Ibrahim Nasir was born in 1926 and had served the Government of Maldives in various positions. He was given the position of Prime Minister during the reign of Sultan Mohammed Fareed Didi, from 1957 to 1968. He was elected as president of Maldives once the country became a republic for the second time in its history on 11 November 1968. He stayed in power for 10 years and resigned in 1978. He was married three times and has three sons and two daughters. He went into exile in Singapore on 7 December 1978 and did not return to Maldives during his lifetime

My Deepest sympathy to Ibrahim Nasir Family. This is Avery great loss to our country.
