Maldives’ 2nd president, Ibrahim Nasir, has passed away at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. He died while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore around 7:15pm Male’ time.
Ibrahim Nasir was born in 1926 and had served the Government of Maldives in various positions. He was given the position of Prime Minister during the reign of Sultan Mohammed Fareed Didi, from 1957 to 1968. He was elected as president of Maldives once the country became a republic for the second time in its history on 11 November 1968. He stayed in power for 10 years and resigned in 1978. He was married three times and has three sons and two daughters. He went into exile in Singapore on 7 December 1978 and did not return to Maldives during his lifetime
My Deepest sympathy to Ibrahim Nasir Family. This is Avery great loss to our country.

I believe that our former president, Ibrahim Nasir introduced the modern world to Maldives with independence and freedom.May Allah bless him to go to the paradise. And I request our current president,Mr.Mohamed Nasheed to expose the hidden service of our former president,Mr.Ibrahim Nasir to the young generation of the Maldives.
Eventhough our former president,Mr.Ibrahim Nasir and his family had no freedom to live in Maldives,we,Maldivians have full respect towards them and we will appreciate Mr.Ibrahim Nasir's service throughout our life.
